Marco Lanzafame was born on the island of Sicily, in the city of Catania which lies at the foothills of Europe’s highest active volcano, Mount Etna. And it is Etna which has influenced Marco’s work from a very early age. His fascination with the myths and legends which surround this fertile and, sometimes, harsh landscape inspired his thesis, “Myths & Legends of Etna” using lava stone, cinder and sand collected from his beloved Etna. It was this very work which the Academy of Fine Art in Milan (NABA-Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) chose from among all their Italian Academies as their representative at the European Exposition of Fine Art held in Maastricht in 1992. Being ever a pragmatic Sicilian, Marco had decided to take the path of advertising & graphic design at NABA, obtaining a first class honors degree in Advertising & Graphic Design in 1992. Over the next few years, Marco worked as a Creative Director for various companies in Italy until the call of his homeland brought Marco back to Catania in 1997 where he started up his own advertising agency with his brother, Daniele, presently called DAMAmedia. During this time, the artist Marco continued to experiment with different styles and techniques.

Marco has two children, Teo and Olga and presently lives in a “green” house designed by him, surrounded by lemon, orange and olive groves with his Irish partner, Veronica, and their four cirneco dell’etna dogs.
